This past weekend, Dior headed to the buzzing Mexico City to stage its Cruise 2024 runway show, just weeks after showing its Pre-Fall 2023 collection in Mumbai.

Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri placed iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo at the heart of the collection, taking inspiration from Kahlo’s feminine-meets-masculine aesthetic. Suits sent down the runway payed homage to the men’s three-piece suits Kahlo wore, while full skirts were worn with a traditional huipil in the Tehuana custom. (Dior worked with local artisans to create a collection of shirts and huipils, as well as collaborate on original garments and accessories drawn from the Dior archives.)

The show’s venue further reflects the collection’s personal nature: the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, where Kahlo studied and also met her husband Diego Rivera, a fellow artist and activist who would become instrumental in her work. Among the editors and influencers seated under the archways of the former school were celebs Riley Keough, Alicia Keys, Naomi Watts, and Yalitza Aparicio.
