Cars weren’t the only thing people saw at the Miami Grand Prix. For the first time, Ferrari debuted a new model and a new color outside of the Maranello factory in Italy. Meanwhile, Rocco Iannone dropped a new capsule collection for Ferrari Style, the brand’s clothing line. Taking visual cues from Ferrari’s racing history and Miami’s Art Deco aesthetic, the collection feels sporty, yet sleek and modern.

“I am Italian, so of course I grew up with a strong Ferrari imprint in my DNA. However to take on the role as a Creative Director for Ferrari required a lot of research, months and months of research and study and asking myself, who is our customer? Who are we talking to, designing for, etc.,” Iannone explains. “I studied the design philosophy behind our cars and understood that there is a common fil rouge; there are lines, volumes, curves, muscular almost anatomical similarities that I played with and expanded on with my designs, the tension between form and function. The rich heritage of racing is another element I interpret into the runways, but as a modern evolution, almost futuristic in look and feel, not only on specific elements of the collection, like our Ferrari Suit, eyewear and gloves, but also on the full fashion show experience, like the circular runway.”

The collection was presented to the press with a private lunch at the Faena Hotel in South Beach. But Iannone’s must-hit spot whenever he lands in Florida is closer to the heart of the city. “My first destination is always the Design District, where fashion and design live together,” he says. “In that environment, the same collections you can see in Milan, NY or Paris, become much more emphatic and vibrant.”
