“Oscar [de la Renta] made absolutely drop-dead beautiful evening dresses. I got them at the boutique in New York, at 66th and Madison. Sometimes I’d just walk by, look in the window, and see it. I’d be in love. And there was so much going on back then, for black-tie parties. I think I’ll have them forever, ’til I can’t walk anymore.”
“The Chanel jacket is quite old at this point, but I am drawn to things that have longevity. I wore it at the christening of my godson, and I have to say that was memorable because it was lovely to be with a great friend of mine and see her little one be christened, and also to have that honor of being a godmother. It took place in Spain, which is where I come from; it’s where my heart belongs.”
“I had to get something from [the 2011 Christie’s auction The Jewelry of Elizabeth Taylor: The Legendary Jewels]. I really wanted to own something that Elizabeth Taylor had, and I liked these earrings. It’s nice—to think of these women who were iconic, who are no longer here—it’s nice to have something they owned. I think of her when I wear them. That’s why they’re so special. It feels like when your mother or grandmother passes something on.”
“I bought this dress at Pucci on Worth Avenue many years ago and it is still my go-to for a festive Palm Beach night out. I love the pastel color palette and timeless pattern, which feels perfectly suited for the destination.”
“The car was originally built for my great aunt, and it lived in Paris in the 1950s and ’60s. I had it restored about 20 years ago. I have great memories of riding in the car when I was a young man in Europe. The Goyard trunk dates back from the late 1920s or early ’30s. It was originally purchased by my grandfather and his initials are on it in red. The hat I purchased from Lock [& Co.] in London and the sports jacket is an old tweed made for me in London in the ’70s.”
“I have a picture of Marilyn Monroe wearing this bag. It’s got a missing stone, and these crazy compartments, but you open it and it still has two dimes of hers—this is from when you’d use a dime for a phone call. And then she’s got her lipstick, and her comb, and her unfiltered cigarettes. Isn’t that fun? It’s a piece of history. For me it’s like an artifact; it’s a treasure.”
“While on vacation with my husband, I came across this mesmerizing black and white Chanel dress. It symbolizes the romance and elegance of our blissful time in Paris.”
