The fall society circuit is officially up and running. On Monday the Metropolitan Opera held its Opening Night Gala, kicking off its new season. The evening began with cocktails, after which guests were treated to a performance of Grounded, the new production based on a play by George Brant.
The opera stars Emily D’Angelo as Jess, a fighter pilot whose career stalls once she becomes pregnant. Featuring music by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the show is aided by high-tech staging, with LED screens bringing action—including the aerial perspective of a Reaper drone flown by Jess—to life.
After the performance, guests headed over to the David H. Koch Theater (a short jaunt across Lincoln Square’s plaza from the opera house) where they enjoyed a seated dinner. Click through the gallery below to see photos from the evening.
