In 1992, Christina Merrill launched The Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation with a fundraiser at the Copacabana Club in Manhattan. Over the years, the organization has become known in New York for its beloved student dances – including the Gold & Silver Ball, now in its 66th year. Last month, the BMCF officially brought the party to Palm Beach.
In September, the organization held two inaugural Florida student dance events—the Palm Ball and the Beach Ball—at the Colony Hotel. Over 300 students from grades 5 to 8 across the community enjoyed buffet dinners, raffles, and of course, dancing.

“With many of our supporters and trustees based in Palm Beach, we are so thrilled to bring our successful NYC events to this wonderful area,” Merrill said in a statement. “These dances are a great way to bring kids together for a fun and memorable evening with their friends while underlining the importance of giving back to those in need.”
As with its New York dances, the Balls raised vital funds to provide financial assistance and resources to those facing cancer. And also like their New York counterparts, the Palm and Beach Balls are sure to become cherished annual events in Palm Beach. Click here to donate.
