Despite slowly stepping back from the limelight recently, legendary designer Tom Ford’s impact on the fashion industry is still being discussed. Earlier this month, Ford was honored at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards, where he received the Outstanding Achievement Award for his storied career.

Anna Wintour presented Ford with the award at the ceremony, which was held in London. As this year’s honoree, Ford was celebrated for his game-changing career in fashion, as well as his film work.

Ford famously helmed both Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, before leaving both brands in 2004 to start his eponymous label. A smash success spanning clothing, beauty, and fragrance, he sold the brand to Estée Lauder in 2022 for $2.8 billion (earning Ford himself an estimated $1.1 billion in the process). Meanwhile, he also found time to write and direct A Single Man (2009) and Nocturnal Animals (2016).

Other Americans who were honored at the event include Alex Consani, who was named Model of the Year, photographer Tyler Mitchell, who took home the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, and actress Issa Rae, who was given the Pandora Leader of Change Award. Meanwhile, Nan Goldin and Gucci were given the Special Recognition Award for their “We Will Always Have London” campaign.
