Last weekend, the Norton Museum of Art hosted its annual gala. This event — titled “One Night at the Norton” — was chaired by Audrey Gruss, Amy Phelan, and Sue Wrigley. Vice chairs included Lori Gendelman, Lorna James, Josephine Kalisman, Nicola Marcus, George Frederick Mead Merck, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Lisa Tananbaum, and Silvia Zoullas.
Event producer extraordinaire David Monn created an incredibly beautiful backdrop that was the talk of the evening using digital projection mapping, and designed the evening’s black and white theme. Celebrating the museum’s current exhibition, Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing, the night featured dinner, dancing, and a live auction by Sotheby’s. Contemporary artist Rashid Johnson was the night’s honoree, marking the first time the event has honored an artist.
Jonson’s work was featured in the evening’s live auction, alongside that of Awol Erizku, Christiane Feser, Sol LeWitt, Joel Mesler, Zanele Muholi, Claes Oldenburg, Anastasia Samoylova, and Dustin Yellin, among others. All 44 lots sold, adding nearly $1.4 million to the night’s funds.
Among the 700 guests in attendance were Jane Holzer, Ashley and Rusty Holzer, George Hamilton and Katherine Bryan, Ghislain d’Humières, Kelly Williams, Aerin Lauder, Lauren Layne Merck, Lisa and Steven Tananbaum, West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James, and Lisa and Richard Perry.
Overall, the night raised more than $5 million to support the Norton’s curatorial and learning and community engagement programs. Click through the gallery below to see photos of the event.
