Though she has only lived in Palm Beach full-time since 2020, Jill Schecter has been making an impact on the town through her work with the Children of Fallen Patriots, which aides with the education goals of children with military parents. Recently, the organization hosted a gala at The Breakers, raising over $2.4 million for their cause.
Below, she tells PALMER more about the organization, and what she loves about Palm Beach.
How did you get involved with the organization?
Matt and I were introduced to Children of Fallen Patriots (CFP) by the founders Cynthia and David Kim. We have supported CFP for over a dozen years and were drawn to their mission, which provides college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty. Both Matt’s and my father served, and Matt’s close college friend was the Commanding Officer of the Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier. He shared how important organizations like CFP are to military families. We truly appreciate those who have served or are currently in service and are devoting their lives to protecting our freedom.
What is most inspiring about it?
Meeting, working with, and interacting with the Gold Star Children who are the recipients of CFP scholarships. Their stories are both heartbreaking and inspirational. All have lost one or in some cases both of their parents. Their desire to pursue higher education and be productive in the workforce is admirable. It inspires us to help make a difference as these gold star children pursue their goals without the normal financial burdens and pressure.
When did you move to Palm Beach and why?
Matt and I moved to Palm Beach in 2020 from Greenwich, Connecticut. We were attracted to the area for its culture, location, climate, rich history, and interesting people. We had several friends that lived and visited here, which made the move that much easier. Palm Beach has so much to offer and we have made so many new friends here as well.
What do you like most about the town?
The weather, of course! Aside from that, we love the mix of people from all parts of the country and the world. We love the commitment to philanthropy and the arts. The people are really what make Palm Beach. We have found from our neighbors, to those we have met at parties, events, golf, tennis, or other activities, are all interesting, welcoming and warm.
What has been the response to Fallen Patriots?
When Matt and I met with the Kim’s just over a year ago to discuss a Palm Beach event, we could have never anticipated the response! To sell out the event at The Breakers in the inaugural year was unprecedented. We were overwhelmed with the positive response to CFP. Our friends on the host committee—the Bildens, Davies, Fords, Mortons, Quents, Roberts, and Spurriers—helped us in getting the word out, getting the community involved, and making the event a success. The collective effort from all was a resounding triumph, raising over $2.4 million!
What will the money be used for?
To provide educational counseling and four-year college educations for Gold Star Children. Charity Navigator has given CFP a perfect score and the board of directors picks up almost all of the operating costs so that the money raised will go directly to Gold Star Families. People can get involved by making donations to the CFP, helping to organize and attend the galas and other events, and by giving their time to the organization.
What are your plans this summer?
Matt and I spend our summers on Nantucket. We have been going to the island for over 30 years with our family.
What’s next for Fallen Patriots?
Fallen Patriots will hold their NYC gala at Cipriani 42nd Street on May 15, and their next gala in Palm Beach will again be at The Breakers on February 27, 2026.
