Château La Coste has long been a haven for bold artistic visions, pairing fine wine with works by Bourgeois, Calder, and Scully. This summer, it gets a distinctly New York inflection thanks to “PURE: Made in New York,” an exhibition by RALPH PUCCI International, the celebrated design gallery known for its sculptural furniture and lighting.

Running through September 21, the show marks Pucci’s 70th anniversary, and is only the fourth contemporary design exhibition ever at Château La Coste, as well as the first by an American. Installed in Oscar Niemeyer’s striking pavilion, the exhibition showcases exclusive white pieces in Ralph Pucci’s proprietary Plasterglass, by thirteen artists and designers, from Elizabeth Garouste to Vladimir Kagan. Each piece was handmade in Pucci’s Manhattan studio, where a unique process transforms hand-sculpted plaster and clay prototypes into collectible design.

The works here, all rendered in luminous white, invite close contemplation of material, scale and form. Adding a layer of theatre, Pucci’s master sculptor is in residence this summer, offering live demonstrations that let visitors peer inside the atelier mindset. And true to the gallery’s origins in the 50’s, the soundtrack is vintage jazz, with Miles Davis and Chet Baker swirling through the Niemeyer curves.
“I have always celebrated art in all its forms—whether that is in music, painting, photography, dance, sculpture, architecture—and this show is an exciting opportunity to bring that together,” said Ralph Pucci, who dreamed up the project after a chance taxi ride in Paris with Château La Coste owner Paddy McKillen. “Château La Coste is so well respected on a global level as a leading arts destination and it’s exciting that Paddy has chosen to spotlight us and contemporary design in this inspiring environment.”
The exhibition is open daily, with works available for purchase.
