Norton Museum of Art
This summer, the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach turns its lens on hidden histories and timeless vices with two compelling exhibitions.
Opening June 14, Veiled Presence: The Hidden Mothers and Sara VanDerBeek uncovers a haunting Victorian practice: mothers who steadied their children for long-exposure portraits, only to be cloaked or scratched out of the final image. Contemporary artist Sara VanDerBeek responds with works that explore motherhood, grief, and the overlooked roles of women in photography.

Then on July 12, The Virtue of Vice: The Art of Social Commentary dives into the Norton’s own collection to showcase more than 25 works on paper. From Goya’s brooding etchings to Peggy Bacon’s sly humor, these artists used their craft to confront everything from poverty to excess—proof that sharp social critique never goes out of style. Together, the shows invite viewers to reconsider what society chooses to obscure, and what art has always boldly brought to light.
Social Justice: An All-Star Curation at The Bunker this Fall
This season, West Palm Beach’s Bunker Artspace hosts a powerhouse gathering of LGBTQ+ artists, architects, gallerists, writers, and curators—among them Erin Christovale, Patrisse Cullors, Jeffrey Gibson, Hilary Harkness, Steve Henry, Cary Leibowitz, Kalup Linzy, Agosto Machado, Peter McGough, Ryan McNamara, Sophie Mörner, Anne Pasternak, Alina Perez, Sharmistha Ray, Joe Sheftel, Mickalene Thomas, Sarah Thornton, Ara Tucker, and Kulapat Yantrasast.
Under the direction of curators Maynard Monrow and Laura Dvorkin, this remarkable group takes a deep dive into the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, selecting works that have inspired, challenged, and advanced conversations around social justice. The result is a dynamic, round-table mosaic of perspectives that promises to be one of the season’s most compelling exhibitions.
Opens December at The Bunker.
