With Season 3 of The Gilded Age drawing to a close, and Season 4 officially confirmed, Newport’s storied mansions are once again center stage. As filming locations for the series, homes like The Elms, Marble House, and Rosecliff have become real-world extensions of the show’s grandeur, reinforcing Newport’s status as America’s original playground for old money and new drama.

In celebration, the Preservation Society of Newport County will host Christine Baranski for the annual John G. Winslow Lecture at The Elms on August 7. Baranski, who received an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Agnes van Rhijn, will reflect on the critically acclaimed series and its ties to Newport’s architectural and social history. The evening will be moderated by Jared Bowen, Emmy-winning Executive Arts Editor and host of GBH’s The Culture Show. While originally sold out, a small number of additional tickets have just been released.

The event leads into a weekend of celebration, as The Gilded Age Season 3 finale airs on August 10, just days before the Preservation Society’s annual gala. Though not formally connected, the timing feels serendipitous, offering a real-life encore to the onscreen drama that has brought Newport’s legacy to an entirely new audience.
