Samuel Hutton, a Wellington resident, accomplished showjumper, and a business partner in AS Sporthorses, is back in the Hamptons this week to compete at one of the sport’s most anticipated events: the Hampton Classic. The highlight, the Longines Hampton Classic 5 Grand Prix*, takes place Sunday, drawing international attention to both the horses and the riders who guide them.

Hutton was one of the first riders to join the Global Champions Tour in 2013 while based at Stal Tops, and has since competed as a key member of teams including the London Knights and the Shanghai Swans. In 2024, he completed his first major league season with the Roadrunners, earning a podium finish in Toronto, followed by a close second in a World Cup qualifier. Most recently, he was selected to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Milan—further cementing his reputation as one of the sport’s most formidable competitors.

PALMER caught up with Sam for an inside look at his life on and off the tour.
