We spoke with Klaudia Wachowski, RéVive’s Global Training Director and Elite Esthetician, who gave us the scoop on which ingredients to look out for, how to repair stressed summer skin, the best products from the brand, and more.
As the weather transitions from summer humidity to fall dryness, how can we expect our skin to be affected?
Seasonal changes and environmental stressors affect our skin daily. During the summer, our skin is typically exposed to heat and sun, and we perspire more which can lead to clogged pores, breakouts, and dehydration. During winter, our skin is exposed to harsher weather in the form of low temperatures and cold winds that can, in turn, irritate and dehydrate skin, ultimately leading to sensitivity.
What products or ingredients should we avoid at this transitional time?
As we transition into the colder months, it’s best to adjust your skincare routine to include more hydrating and nourishing products. Ingredients to look for can include ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or sodium hyaluronate and niacinamide. Not only do these ingredients calm skin, but they also help reduce redness and balance the microbiome of the skin for a healthier look. I would also opt for a hydrating cleanser to boost hydration in the skin.
After summer it is also a good idea to use a peel like Maque de Brilliance, it will help to remove any sun damage, even out your skin tone, and get rid of and dry, flaky skin to restore your skin’s glow. While your skin is continuously replenishing itself, with new tissue replacing the old, a chemical peel can notably speed this process. It will help remove roughened, wrinkled, or discolored skin from the surface and stimulate the growth of smoother, brighter, more even, and tighter skin.
I also recommend protecting your lips since they can get chapped and cracked during the colder months. I like to use our Intensite Moisturizing Lip Balm to help protect my lips and keep them moisturized. I also like to use a hydrating mask like our Masque de Radiance once a week to give your skin a boost of hydration.
You should always be applying and incorporating SPF into your routine—even when it is cold, windy, or rainy—to protect skin against environmental aggressors. Our Moisturizing Renewal Day Cream SPF 30 and Sensitif Renewal Cream SPF 30 hydrate, soothe and replenish moisture in the skin while protecting.
Should we still be exfoliating?
Yes, usually we recommend exfoliating the skin two times per week. You should try to find the best exfoliator for your skin type. At RéVive we offer something for everyone: like our Enzyme Essence or Le Polish, more gentle exfoliants that and can be used on a daily basis. Our Masque de Brilliance is an acid peel so it should be used less frequently—once per week. Remember to use a good face mask like Masque De Radiance with vitamin C for added hydration and skin clarity. Be careful not to over-exfoliate as this can lead to skin irritation and sensitivity.
Some of us got a little too much sun this summer—how do you suggest we repair our skin going into the fall?
There are several factors that can harm our skin barrier, many of which stem from environmental aggressors like prolonged sun exposure and dry climates. After an entire summer, many experience a damaged or weakened skin barrier, which can lead to dry, dull, and inflamed skin that fails to retain moisture. Sun damage can also accelerate the aging process of your skin. To mitigate its effects, consider using barrier repairing creams and exfoliants.
Our Sensitif collection soothes stressed skin, repairs the skin barrier and rebalances the skin microbiome while addressing visible signs of aging with our Bio-Renewal Peptide and niacinamide. In addition, exfoliants and mild chemical peels can be helpful in removing dull and flaky skin, which can become more pronounced after UV exposure. Additionally, I would recommend applying a vitamin C product, like Clarte Vitamin C Brightening Serum, to help brighten skin and even skin tone.
For someone looking to preserve their skin barrier while also prioritizing anti-aging, what would the ideal morning and night routine look like in the transitional months?
In the morning, it is important to apply a day serum that is emollient, like our Moisturizing Renewal Hydrogel, in addition to a moisturizing cream with SPF for sun protection. When wanting to still prioritize anti-aging, but not strip the skin barrier, look for products that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, antioxidants (i.e vitamins C and E), and niacinamide.
At night is when our skin recovers from irritating factors like harsh weather conditions, so this would be the time to use a hydrating serum or oil-based serum like our Rescue Elixir, followed by a moisturizing serum and cream like our Sensitif Calming Serum and Sensitif Repairing Night Cream—both products help to repair the skin barrier and contain niacinamide, which helps improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and texture while strengthening the skin barrier.
Though our bodies aren’t quite as exposed this time of year, how can we continue to protect and nourish the skin there?
Skincare doesn’t just stop at the face. Body care is just as important for maintaining healthy skin all over. The areas we often forget to take care of include our neck and décolletage. The skin in these areas is thinner compared to other parts of the face and body, and after a long summer of sun exposure, it is especially vulnerable and one of the first to show signs of aging.
With fall approaching, now is the perfect time to step up the post-summer care to prevent further damage from cold temperatures. For the ultimate neck and décolletage lift, it’s important to create a regimen specifically for this area. Our Fermitif collection, including our newly launched Fermitif Neck Renewal Night Cream and Fermitif Chin Contour Instant Tightening Peptide Mask, restores elasticity and firmness on the neck, décolletage, and hands with our signature Bio-Renewal and Bio-Firming Peptides, to tighten and smooth skin while addressing signs of aging.
