It’s that time of year again—as the first Monday in May approaches and I’ve devoured the two biographies that have just come out (Alfons Kaiser’s detailed KARL LAGERFELD: A Life in Fashion and William Middleton’s illuminating PARADISE NOW: The Extraordinary Life of Karl Lagerfeld), I can’t wait to see Costume Institute curator-in-charge Andrew Bolton’s Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which Bolton promises to be a conceptual look back at the prolific designer’s body of work; displaying, in an exhibition space designed by Tadao Ando, thematic through-lines, inspirations, and the singular methodology of Lagerfeld, the visionary multi-disciplinary creative who, during his lifetime, famously refused to look back himself…at The Met Fifth Avenue, May 5–July 16.
